Oregon Adventure - A change of pace, a change of direction

With Doug freshly relocated to Oregon, it didn’t take long for the Boyz to sniff out a new excuse for adventure. His place became home base, and the Three Sisters Wilderness—via the Deschutes National Forest—would serve up the backcountry fix.

Flights booked, flasks filled, and spirits high, the Boyz landed at the Redmond/Bend airport and immediately made their first crucial stop: the market. Priorities? Food, firewood, and trail whiskey.

Night one was pure glamp-backcountry fusion at Little Cultus Lake. Doug fired up his portable grill and seared a pork loin worthy of applause. With all the fixin's laid out lakeside, the meal hit the spot—though the overnight temps in the 20s made sure no one lingered too long outside their sleeping bags.

The next morning, the packs went on and the real mission began: a trek to Winopee Lake. About 20 minutes in, the Boyz stumbled upon a string of boat-in campsites straight out of a backcountry daydream at Cultus Lake — fire pits, perfect lake views, total serenity. Tempting… but with characteristic resolve (and a dash of overconfidence), we pressed on.

Five miles later, with snow crunching underfoot and temperatures dropping, reality set in. The campsites up near Winopee looked sketchy, the cold unrelenting. The consensus? Time for a strategic retreat.

So, the Boyz did what seasoned adventurers do best— they pivoted. Back down the trail they went, right back to one of those beautiful lakefront sites they passed earlier. By 4:30 p.m. the tents were up, firewood stacked, and a roaring blaze chased the cold away.

The next two nights delivered everything Los Boyz are known for: solitude, laughter, backcountry bocce, cutthroat hearts - where Snyde artfully shot the moon - and the kind of scotch that warms the soul. A quick mile-long beer run back to the truck punctuated their day chillin’ at the campsite.

And as if the trip needed one more highlight—they made it back to Doug’s to watch the Dodgers clinch the World Series and enjoy a 5-star meal prepared by Doug and Mindy.

Another classic for the logbook. A change of pace, a change of direction, and a championship ending—Los Boyz style.
